In our household lives Maarit, Pasi and
PWD girls
Ursa
and
Fera plus Santos a PWD male .Year
2010 brought us also löwchen girl Tete. Ursa is our first Portuguese
waterdog. We found the breed accidentally by meeting one young male. At that
point we already had decided to get a dog and breed matched our requirements:
middle sized, non-shedding, easy coat (just clip it short on regular basis). We
wanted to have a nice family dog and that we of course got. But also just a
little bit more. We never intended to show her but as the breeder demanded that
we do not cut the coat short until she is 8 months and she wanted to do the
first clipping we agreed. So we brought her for her first trimming. I asked if
she could clip her short but she refused. I just thought ok I'll get a machine
and do it myself as we both thought that the traditional lion clip is ugly.
Breeder’s last comment was when we left that we should consider showing her.
That was the first seed in our heads and after prompting of other people we
entered her in the speciality for waterdogs and spaniels 2003 judged by Carla
Molinari. Before that show we went for ring training even I was still convinced
that it is going to be only one show. Before the show we drove to Kotka to get
her properly clipped and the second seed that contributed to our change of mind
was planted by Eija (Fera's breeder). Because she said after clipping that Ursa
looks quite fine and that she could achieve Finish Championship. Last seed came
from her first show as she won junior class and got r-CAC even my handling
was... well let's forget that. We also took part to her father’s progeny group
that was Best of Breed and Best in Show. So she was entered in a moment of
madness for few more shows and after that I was hooked even though in the
following year her success in the ring was not really very promising.
I think it is very clear by now that we
do not think that lion clip is ugly and as we wanted her to have company we got
our second girl from Eija. We actually planed to have the second dog first when
Ursa was a bit older but again destiny kind of intervened.
As all our travelling plans for a summer
2004 were for various reasons not happening and Eija still had one girl left
from a litter that was so perfectly born in the beginning of May and ready to
move to new homes when our summer holiday started at the beginning of July, it
is easy to guess what was the result. Fera joined our family. How could we have
resisted this?

Her show
career started also from specialty for spaniels and waterdogs. She was entered
to baby class (5-7months) together with her sisters Gillian, Gilda, Gina and
Ginny. She was the last of the pack and left without Honors Prize. Reason for
this was that she was a bit overweight and I have to admit she had "a little"
tummy. However she has since then had very nice results in the ring and she
keeps us in motion every day.
Next
addition to our family was Santos. A young man out of Fera's lovely sister Gilda and sired by one of my
favourite male Lee. We waited a long time for this special combination and
Santos is very special. He has taken his first steps in show ring and start has
been very promising. As an afterthought he has been quite successful and
achieved couple of group placements and became C.I.B at the age of 2,5 years.
I had to edit the above text a
littel since we have a new addition to our family. My dream since August 2006
has been realised and littel löwchen girl Tete has moved in. She really is fun
and full of mischief in a good way. Can't really wait to see what all this
littel girl will bring us.
